I was born in Leeds in and I can remember going down to Leeds market with my Dad who worked at Batties Butchers near the market. The memories of watching Woodbine Lizzie chop wood and tell stories behind the market are still there, she looked just like "Old Mother Riley" in the old movies. John Hitchen - 23/01/2007 09:44

I was born on Temple View nr. Roundhey Park Leeds and used to Go to a School on Green Lane I think. I can remember coming out after School in the afternoon and going home we had to go past the old coalyard , if the coaltruck happened to be coming out of the yard all loaded up and going nice and slow we would hang on the back of the truck for a free ride.Good job my Dad never found out he would have kicked my ass. Leeds is a god forsaken hell hole. If you ever get the chance to go....don't. Rory - 05/04/2007 00:39
I have just been reunited with an old school friend who is shortly to celebrate her 60th birthday. We spent our teenage years dancing at the Mecca & I would love to get her a photo of the old dancehall.Do you have any idea where one might be found? I was born & raised in Leeds & remember the trams, the bustling shops on York Road (now sadly very run down) Sue Hodgson - 07/08/2007 07:24
