Am forced to visit Manchester occasionally for work. Hate the place the people are rude and totally unhelpful - don't ask for directions what ever you do. I moved from the garden of england Kent to Manchester 7 years ago, although i do miss the countryside being on my doorstep, i couldnt think of a more wonderful place to live, sure it has rough areas but hey so do most places. Ive found the people to be nothing more than welcoming and friendly. louise froma few posts above, i dont know what silver spoon community you come from but climb down from that high horse you occasionally visit manchester on and realise what a wonderful city this is and is still getting better by the week. Like the song says, it has so much to answer for.. , but despite this I feel it has a buzz like nowhere I've ever been. I like the innate friendliness( oh yes, Louise) of the people, the profusion of races, cultures and dialects, the brassy confidence of the architecture, it's insane cosmopolitan aspiration - witness the street cafes that defy the elements. And, of course, that two-fingers up attitude extends to London and a distinctive music and art scene. I still love The Fall, The Smiths, James, Stone Roses. I really miss the Thursday concerts by The Halle, and visits to hear the BBC Phil and the Camerata. Of course, Manchester has two great football teams - United, and (wait for it...) United Reserves. And on odd days, I can even be generous to the Blue half of the town. I mean, can't you see what generosity of spirit the place inspires ? Shame about Boddingtons leaving though .... Manchester has so much to offer, its a city of multi-culturalism and beauty. Everyone should visit! To LOUISE- you obviously have had a bad experience in Manchester, but that doesn't mean that all mancunians are the same. Go anywhere, and you will find crime.
